NMN Introduction
NMN, known as β-Nicotinamide Mononucleotide (NMN for short), is found in some fruits and vegetables and poultry meat, and is a naturally occurring substance in the human body that can be converted intracellularly into NAD+, an important coenzyme related to human metabolism. Studies have confirmed that intracellular NAD+ levels decrease with age, and exogenous supplementation of NMN is thought to have a role in strengthening human cellular function. Studies have found that NAD+ levels steadily decay with age, leading to altered metabolism and increased disease susceptibility; restoring NAD+ levels in aged or diseased animals promotes health and prolongs lifespan.
Preclinical studies have shown multiple pharmacological effects of NMN in cardiac and cerebral ischemia, Alzheimer's disease, diet and age-induced type 2 diabetes and obesity, all of which are associated with NAD+ deficiency.
Understanding and judging the efficacy of NMN should be based on the results of scientific studies and clinical trials; following the currently available literature, the research findings on the efficacy of NMN are summarized as follows.
